The word of the day was Challenging. The ride started cold and damp and ended hot and dry. We did the first named hill (not the first hill or the toughest, but very intimidating): quad-buster.
Moreso, the challenges were mental and emotional. I heard lots of complaints about aches and pains out of proportion with their effects. I heard grown men speak jealously about a hot guy. People missing loved ones feeling lonely (that would be me).
But that is definitely one of the challenges you face in cycling. As your body is taxed, it draws resources from your mental processing. Probably something everyone should experience. Working through your demons as they surface.
And each of those people will succeed.
